Our 2 week Road Trip

Late last year we took 2 weeks off and went on a road trip.

We visited the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, The Grampians, Broken Hill and Silverton, Menindee Lake, and The Warrumbungles.

Recent Trip to Queensland

We recently spent 2 weeks away camping. A fantastic time was had with some wonderful scenery, including sunsets.

PNG

Spent a week in Tabubil for work. One of the wettest regions in the world, and covered in cloud most of the time. Around 7,000ft altitude, similar height to Mt Kosciuszko. PNG

Pilbara

I have just returned from a couple of days in the Pilbara, as I had to visit Newman for work. My first time to the Pilbara, and I am sure it won't be my last (I am scheduled to go back in February). Newman
Overnighted in Perth both ways, staying at the Crowne Metropole Hotel (Burswood Casino).

Papua New Guinea (PNG)

I have recently returned from a visit to Lihir Island in Papua New Guinea (PNG). I visited a gold mine to deliver a training course. It has been a while since I was in PNG, the last time was up to Lae. It was a relatively quick trip with 3 days onsite.

Due to the flight schedules, I had to overnight in Cairns, both on the way up and back. It took 3 flights to get to Lihir Island, Sydney-Cairns-Raboul-Lihir Island.

For those who are interested, the aircraft were a Boing B737-800, Bombardier Q400, and a Bombardier Dash 8.

One downside to visiting PNG is that I cannot donate blood now for 2 years.

Indonesia

Just back from 3 weeks working in Indonesia. Back up to Tanjung to help with a project on one of the coal mines.

Always an interesting experience, and it was great working with the Indonesia team.

I did, however, miss good coffees.

Travel route was Sydney/Denpasar/Jakarta/Balikpapan/Banjermasin/Warukin

Return: Warukin//Banjarmasin/Jakarta/Sydney.

Indonesia

Well, I am off to Indonesia this week. As part of my new job, I have staff in Balikpapan, Indonesia which I need to manage.
Balikpapan is a seaport city on the eastern coast of the island of Borneo, in the East Kalimantan province, a resource-rich region well known for its timber, mining, and petroleum export products. The city has a population of around 470,000.
The average monthly max temperature all year is 29-30 degrees C, while the minimum is 25-26 degrees C.
I finally get to fly on the new Airbus A380, as I fly via Singapore. I am a big fan of the old Boeing 747, but technology changes, so it will be good to see how the A380 shapes up.

Pajero

My trusty Pajero has finally gone. After 16 years of great service, it has gone to the 4WD graveyard.
As a result, my primary mode of transport is my trusty Honda Shadow motorbike. Great when the weather is good, but not so nice when it is bucketing down rain (which it has been doing a bit of recently).
A new 4WD is on the agenda, but this time will be a dual cab ute.

Camping…..

Well we finally dusted off our campertrailer and went away for a weekend. We realised it has been 2 1/2 years since we have been away camping. The downside of having your own business.
The campertrailer was still in good shape after such a long time with no use (it had been opened up a few times to ensure all was good).
Looking forward to getting away regularly now.
